Red lipstick gives the whole outfit a different look turning it from casual every day to more stylish and classy. Red lipsticks falls into many categories and it is important to know which is suitable for your skin tone or which will make you look odd. However girls having more practice with red and bold shades can pull almost any color with right amount of eye makeup and hair style but if you are trying to be comfortable and just stepping into the world of bold shades then it is better to start with colors which compliments your skin. Considering the Valentine day just around the corner today i am going to share my thoughts on which red is more suitable on different skin tones.

Red falls mainly in 3 category True Red, Blue Red and Orange Red and skin tones falls in many categories but i will be talking about 6 types.

If you have very light skin color with pink undertones then you must go for pink based or slight blue based lipsticks like raspberry to compliment your skin. In case you favor a touch of orange then go for coral shades instead of complete orange based. Too dark or orange tone lipsticks will make you look odd without proper eye makeup and hair style.

Light skin or else referred as fair skin with yellow undertones can be paired with orange based reds. They will compliment your skin and brings the natural golden glow of your skin. You can go for slight blue tone or pink tone with proper eye makeup though.

Medium skin have tendency to tan easily in summers and loose it in winter. So for medium skin with both yellow and pink undertone the red should have equal amount of orange or blue undertones in other words classic red or true red will be perfect. However depending on season you can go for orange-y red in summers to brighten up your skin and blue tone red in winters to compliment your light tan which will also make your teeth look white.

Olive skin have green-yellow undertones  which also have tendency to tan easily. The most safe reds for this skin is brick red while for bold look blue tone red provides contrast to olive skin and make you look stand out. However too orange tone red might not be a good idea.

Dark or Almond skin tones can go for both orange tone reds or blue tone reds. Orange tone like tangerine reds gives them bold and glamorous look while blue tone like wine red shades gives you subtle-not-too-bold look. Brown red or brick red might give you ashy look. It is better to choose the lipstick with little shimmer or glossy finish for this skin to give it dimension.
